How Do You Choose Player of the Match When Everyone Has Contributed?
Share
Ever had one of those games where you genuinely can't pick Player of the Match?
Your striker scored twice. Your keeper made a brilliant save. Your defender was solid all game.
But someone else worked relentlessly off the ball. Another kept encouraging the players around her. And the player who's been struggling with confidence finally tried the thing you've been working on for weeks.
They've all contributed.
Just in different ways.
So who gets it?
↓ The Answer
Look beyond the obvious moments
When it's a tough call, ask yourself:
- Who made a difference to the team?
- Who showed improvement?
- Who kept going when things went wrong?
- Who did something you've been working on in training?
Sometimes it'll still be the goalscorer or the keeper who made that brilliant save. Other times, you'll notice something you might otherwise have missed.
Then tell her why →
When you've chosen, tell her what you saw.
“You got Player of the Match today because even when things weren't going your way, you kept working for the team.”
Simple. But she'll know exactly what you noticed.
But here's a thought →
Sometimes Player of the Match is difficult to choose because more than one player deserves to be recognised.
You might have 14 players who contributed in 14 different ways.
But only one award.
So choose your Player of the Match. Celebrate her.
But why should choosing one mean only one gets recognised?
⚽ Take this to training
One player can be Player of the Match. Every player can be recognised.
Imagine if every player →
knew you noticed
Imagine if, after every match or training session, you could privately recognise every player for what they brought that day.
The effort. The improvement. The confidence. The teamwork. The little things you saw that they might not even realise you noticed.
You know the value in those moments.
We know the value in making sure the player knows you noticed too.
That's why we built Recognition into CHGConnect
