Champion of the Month: Sophia – Finding Confidence Through Football
Share
At Champion Her Game, we believe sport is about more than performance.
It’s about confidence, courage, and finding your place.
This month, we’re proud to celebrate Sophia, aged 11.
Just over a year ago, Sophia had little interest in football and often found new situations challenging. Confidence didn’t come easily.
That changed when she joined her local team.
Surrounded by a supportive group of girls, she found something powerful — a place where she belonged.
Everything shifted during a summer friendly when Sophia stepped into goal unexpectedly.
She helped secure her team’s first ever clean sheet and saved a penalty.
From that moment, she found her passion.
What followed has been incredible.
Within just a few months, Sophia:
- Attended a residential goalkeeper camp on her own
- Earned trials at Southampton FC Girls PDP and Chelsea Boys PDP
- Was accepted into both programmes
- Pushed herself further with a trial at AFC Bournemouth ETC
But what stands out most isn’t just her progress — it’s her courage.
A year ago, she struggled with new experiences.
Today, she is choosing them.
That transformation is what makes Sophia special.
At Champion Her Game, this is exactly what we stand for.
Not just better players but braver, more confident girls.
This is courage.
This is her game.
