Confidence

Be the first voice.

Your team's Confidence score is in the Opportunity zone. That's not a problem — it's a signal. Here's something you can do about it this week.

A low score here can come from lots of small things — and small adjustments often have the biggest impact. Here's one idea to try.
Try this

Make the echo a positive one.

When a girl makes a mistake, get in first — before the sideline, before her teammates. Acknowledge it, then reinforce the effort: "Missed it — but what a run to get there." Say it loud enough that everyone hears. You're the first voice. Make the echo a positive one.

Why this works

After a mistake there's a half-second where everyone's deciding how to react — and the first voice sets the tone for all the others. Teammates, parents and spectators echo whoever speaks first. If that's you, and it's positive, the echo is positive. A girl who knows the effort gets noticed keeps trying the things she might get wrong. A girl who only hears the groan stops trying at all. Three of the five Confidence questions are about the fear of getting it wrong — Confidence is the freedom to fail, not self-esteem in general.

This week: Pick your "buts" before the game. Whatever happens, you're the first voice — and you always find the effort worth naming. "Lost the ball — but brilliant work trying to win it back." "Wide of the post — but she had the courage to shoot." The response becomes the culture.

You know your girls. If anything here feels bigger than football, trust that instinct and speak to your welfare officer.
