Development

Coach the build-up.

Your team's Development score is in the Opportunity zone. That's not a problem — it's a signal. Here's something you can do about it this week.

A low score here can come from lots of small things — and small adjustments often have the biggest impact. Here's one idea to try.
Try this

Don't let the drill only grow the striker.

Take your standard shooting drill. Don't let it end when the striker shoots. Reward the build-up too — the run, the cross, the pass that created the chance. Same drill you already run. Just move the finish line back.

Why this works

The classic shooting drill only develops the striker — everyone else feeds her and watches. A game is built in the phases, not the finish. The winger who spends the session crossing and watching scores herself low on development, and the app is the only thing that would ever tell the coach. Score the build-up and every girl is developing, not just the one in the box.

This week: Same drill you already run. Just change what counts. Award a point for the pass that set up the chance. Celebrate the run that created the space. The striker still scores — but now so does the girl who made it possible.

You know your girls. If anything here feels bigger than football, trust that instinct and speak to your welfare officer.
